An introduction to all natural soap
“My earliest memory of natural soap was taught to me by my grandmother. I hail from the country of Grenada and our house was located right next to the Plaisance small river. Bathing and frolicking in the river was a favorite pastime of my brother and I, as well as all the neighborhood children. One day, I remember going to the river one afternoon to take a swim and a bath with my grandmother. She introduced my brother and I to a plant called “the soap bush”. The leaves were picked, then rubbed between the palms and it made a nice lather. It was used for bathing if you had no real soap. I learned that this plant was used often by the locals as a natural herbal skin treatment to make their skin smooth and healthy, to get rid of rashes, skin infections, or just overall skin beautification. Even as a young child this got me thinking about the process of soap, but it wasn’t until many years later that I began to pursue this interest.
Our philosophy
We pride ourselves on using the highest quality safe, and natural ingredients to make our soaps and body products. We do not use any synthetic fragrances or fillers, neither do we skimp on essential oils and natural fragrances. All our soap recipes have been tested and used by actual people who loved and enjoyed our products. We also incorporate ingredients that have been used for centuries and is known to nourish and heal the skin. We only use skin safe essential oil blends that do not contain parabens, synthetic fillers and phthalates. Our essential oils are 100% pure, therapeutic grade, cold pressed or steamed distilled.
The Environment
We strongly believe in the words Reduce, Reuse and Recycle! The Rustic & Classics Soap Company uses minimal packaging that can be recycled, and we’re always looking for new ways to cut packaging and use environmentally degradable materials. Our soap molds and some of our equipment have been made from repurposed or reclaimed materials. We are doing our part in helping to conserve our environment.
Why our soaps are different
We use unique ingredients and herbs from the island of spice, Grenada, with a combination of locally grown ingredients from Canada. Our products are all hand made in small batches with quality ingredient and they are made with the purpose of healing the skin, maintaining its health and enhancing its beauty. All of our oils are infused with herbs to add richness and skin-loving nutrients to all our soaps and other products which will benefit your skin. One of our beliefs is that whatever goes into our soaps should always be safe and edible. We use only natural colours such as turmeric, charcoal, annatto, and many more plant based colours. We source some of our products from reliable green companies and have grown some ourselves to ensure that all our additives are phthalates and paraben free.
Why toxin free
An individual uses many different products each day. Most of these products have toxic chemicals in them. Continuous use of those products cause damage to our precious skin cells. This can eventually lead to various skin problems such as eczema, dermatitis, rashes, pimples, uneven skin tones, and the list goes on. Rustic & Classics cares about your skin health which is why we only offer our toxin-free skin loving products.
Why herbal infusions
Our olive oil is infused with a variety of herbs to add richness, moisture, soothing and healing properties to the skin. What is an infused oil? (also referred to as a macerated oil.) Infused oil will contain the properties of both the carrier oil and the herbs that were infused into the oil. Macerations capture the heavier larger molecules, are more complex than essential oils and have additional healing properties. Infused oils contain flavonoids and glucosides, which are soluble in fat just like essential oils, but they are too heavy to be distilled. Flavonoids give the plant its colour. We have done an extensive study on the herbs that we use, and found that they are great for stimulating hair growth and have healing properties. We have also used these herbal infusions mix on ourselves, as well as our friends and family, therefore, we can all vouch for their great benefits!
